New Zealand Myths and legends
New Zealand
Land of myths and legends
Moeraki Boulders
Moeraki Boulders are located in Otago and the South Island and they are a group of big almost
perfect spherical stones on the strech Koekohe Beach, they are about 60 million
years old and were formed from ancient see floor sediments.
This Maori legend
Tells that those stones were the food baskets of Te Kaihimaki´s canoe,
Araiteuru, one of the ancestral boats that brought Maori people from Hawaiki to
New Zealand the boat was sunken during a voyage to carry green stone to the
island and the kumara on board, which is a sweet potatoe became on strong
boulders the baskets became on soft edges and finally the sunken ship became on
a reef. For Maori people The Moeraki Boulders are holy stones. In 1938 one of
these Boulders was taking to the Otago museum to be showed but 25 years later
it started to break dawn while other boulders in the beach were intact.
Nowadays The Moeraki Boulders for being a natural phenomenon it is preserve for
the government with legal protection.

And finally something about their culture in general... We think that it can be useful por our chapter 4
http://www.customs.govt.nz/inprivate/traveltonz/traditionsandculture/Pages/default.aspx
This page contains information of the main and most important celebration of New Zealanders.
http://www.newzealand.com/travel/media/features/events/events_celebrating-waitangi-day_feature.cfm

Step 1
We started researching information about the second chapter "literature" using the triangulating method that the teacher showed us.
We based our research in some web sites.
We started researching the information recommended by the theacher on the platform:
(1) What authors, books, novels, represent the culture of your country?
-We found genereal info about the literature of New Zealand in one site. It will be our source 1 of our triangulating method. http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/culture/literature-in-new-zealand-1930-1960
-We found information about Katherine Mansfield http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/people/katherine-mansfield
Her life and her highlights.
(2) What historical event(s) was the country living when that/those author(s), book(s), novel(s) was/were written/became popular?
-As a complementary info about Katherine, we are going to read in this web http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/biographies/3m42/mansfield-katherine looking for her wrotes and the context involving her productions.
